Franklin Falls Hike 6/27/09

So first of all I have to tell you a cute story about when Erik and Sierra picked me up at the airport from my trip to Vegas. I was gone from Sunday afternoon until 11:30pm on Thursday night and I missed her terribly! Obviously I had never been away from her for more than 8-9 hours from when I am at work so this was HUGE! So of course she was asleep when I got into the car and so I patiently waited for some big noise to hopefully wake her up. So lucky for me it didn't take long and she started to open her eyes. I quickly grabbed her hand and said Hi and she was a little dazed and I went in to give her a kiss. Now, I have to preface her next step by saying that Erik often times will say that she mimics a trout where she is calm one second and then pounces like a trout rising up to the water and catching a fly. So she ever so sweetly reached over to my face and then...yanked on my hair! Oh it was great to be home!

On Saturday, Erik coaxed us into going on a short hike to Franklin Falls towards Snoqualmie Pass. It was just 2 miles total so I was fine. When we got there, we relaxed and had some food. She had a great time and still loves being outdoors in the fresh air.
Here are some pictures that we took. I couldn't choose only 5 for this posting so I had to do 2 posts this time.

Snuggling up to Daddy!

She passed out on the hike back. I was surprised at how I was bouncing up and down and stepping over some rocks and yet she remained in that same position for quite awhile. It was too cute!

Grandpa Gilbert's Visit

Sierra got to meet her Grandpa on Father's Day weekend when my Dad came into town from Washington D.C. We were able to spend all day Saturday and had breakfast together for Father's Day at our house before I flew out to Vegas. On Saturday we met up for breakfast at our favorite breakfast place in Redmond and then we came back to our place to hang out for a bit and to decide on the afternoon's activities. All along we had planned on taking her to the zoo but instead decided on Pike Place Market because the Zoo would be too expensive and she wouldn't quite appreciate it yet. Plus, it closed in a couple hours. That would definitely need to be an all day excursion. Sierra had a blast at her first trip to the market. She loves going anywhere in her Baby Bjorn and will just soak everything in. Of course it was packed and I was nervous with all the noise and crowds but she was completely fine and smiling the whole time. She received lots of compliments too! It was a long day for her so she was a little cranky by the time we got to the car plus it was past her feeding time and without a nap for the whole day, she cried for the last 15 minutes of the ride home. It's horrible when they are strapped into the car seat and you can't just scoop them up to console them. She would have been fine had I been able to take her out and burp, change, and hold her. Luckily, we were almost home. Then, Erik made a yummy salmon dinner and Sierra took a long awaited nap!
Here are some pics from the weekend. I think she found a place in her Grandpa's heart!

6 month Dr visit

On June 15th, Sierra went to see her favorite Doctor in Bellevue, Dr. Phillips. As you can see in the photos, she absolutely has no fear ahead of time yet and loves playing with the huge mirrors and ripping and eating the paper from the examining table. Luckily Mom was on top of that but was sure to get a picture first. Priorities! This time around she weighed in at a womping 16 lbs 11 ounces and was 26.5 inches long. This still kept her in the 75th percentile which the Doctor was pleased to see. Phew! She checked out fine with everything and we were told to give her more variety of solid foods which has been difficult for us so far so hopefully that will get better. Erik's mom has had the best luck so far with mashed bananas.
Then came the not-so-fun shots. I think I have a harder time with this to be honest. I didn't look at the needles and just looked at her to try and distract her and it seemed to go better this time around then last. At least she didn't seem to wail as long. After a few seconds, she was back to smiling again. This time around we gave her some baby Tylenol about a half hour before her shots and then again after her shots. It also seemed like she didn't have as tough of a reaction to the vaccines too which was helpful.
Her next visit will be at 9 months. We should be pro's by then!

Excuses, excuses

Hi! I first of all I need to apologize for my delay in postings! Two weeks ago I found out my computer had multiple virus' so it was in the shop being de-bugged. That was fun! Then my Dad and Step Mom came into town to visit for the weekend and to see Sierra for the first time. Lastly, on Father's Day sadly I had to leave to go to Las Vegas for a 5 day business trip. I swear it was for a conference, people! Anyhow, here I am! I have a lot to post and catch everyone up with so there will be multiple posts with pictures to make it easier.
These are some cute pictures from June 13th of when she was sleeping and after she woke up. Now that she is more comfortable sleeping on her stomach she just sleeps wherever and however she feels like. She is all over her crib too, which can be both scary and hilarious at the same time!

Playing with my feet

I took this small video a couple of mornings ago when she was being especially cute right before I was going to work. Sometimes I think she tries to be extra cute in the morning so she tugs at my heart strings when I have to say good bye to her. Basically she was chilling out and was trying so hard to suck on her toes. She is at that stage where she wants EVERYTHING in her mouth. Then she was also talking to me. She seems like she wants to say "Mom". JoAnn and Erik thought they heard her say it but I wasn't around so I don't think that should really count. You can also witness that cute smacking noise she does with her mouth. I think she is trying to mimic us making kissing noises to her but she can't quite do it. Oh well, it's cute regardless.

Milestone Alert

New update! Sierra is now starting to roll over on a more consistent basis. Grandma JoAnn had witnessed it before over at her house while playing on her play mat but neither Erik or I had seen it so it really wasn't official to me. But on Saturday night we both saw it on 2 different occasions in her crib and on her play mat. But the problem became of how do I get back onto my back?? On Sunday, Erik saw her figure it out for herself one time.
This week we went to a BBQ with our co-workers to Lake Washington where she pooped on my boss' wife (lovely) and cried hysterically when she saw one of my male co-workers for the first time. But I have to say that he was wearing a hat and sunglasses which she has never seen before. Both instances were really funny and sad at the same time! I also tried to dip her in the lake to see how she liked it but the water was pretty chilly. She got her pouty face with the first dip but I gradually acclimated her and eventually she was OK with her legs being in the water but I was not able to see what it would be like to do a little more swimming. Next week, I'm signing her up for a baby swim class with one of my friend's son who is 2 months younger than her. That will start in July. I think she is going to go crazy with the big pool (as long as it is warm enough).
